The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is a tribute to every Prime Minister of India since Independence, and a narrative record of how each has contributed to the development of our nation over the past 75 years. It is a history of collective endeavour and powerful evidence of the enduring success of India’s democracy.
Our Prime Ministers came from every class and tier of society, for the gates of democracy were open equally to all. Each one left a significant imprint on the journey of development, social harmony, and economic empowerment that has enabled India to give true meaning to freedom. We inherited an impoverished land from the debris of British colonialism, and together gave it new life, lifting the country from deprivation and scarcity to food-surplus status and building infrastructure across barren landscapes for the benefit of the people.
The Sangrahalaya is a seamless experience that begins in the renovated and refurbished Nehru Museum building, now fully updated with technologically advanced displays on the life and contributions of Shri Jawaharlal Nehru. The new panorama also includes a section exhibiting a large number of rare gifts received by him from across the world, many of which are being displayed for the first time.
The saga of modern India begins with the freedom struggle and the making of a great Constitution. The Sangrahalaya goes on to tell the story of how India’s Prime Ministers guided the nation through various challenges and ensured its all-round progress. Within this narrative lies a message for the younger generation: there are greater horizons to conquer as we transform India into a New India.
The Sangrahalaya consists of 15 galleries on the Prime Ministers and showcases over 300 digital and non-digital exhibits and more than nine hours of content through panels, LED boards, and screens. It describes the narratives on PMs through Holograms, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Multi-media interactive kiosks, kinetic light sculptures, silicon edged graphic panels, smart phone applications, experiential installations among others. The Sangrahalaya’s infrastructure and visitor services are in line with the Government of India’s commitment to the Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan).
